In a very small section of this website we reserve the right to too our own horn, while having a heart to heart with our readers. When you mention The Monster Guide to your friends here's a cheat sheet you can keep close at hand. Why check in with us?

Two years ago we reported the first in depth three part feature that linked the epidemic spread of the Mountain Pine Beetle to climate change, and why we could never meet Kyoto targets. The potential fire risk was spelled out and only now is being taken seriously by communities, industry and governments.

Three years ago we launched our Prevention Section which educates the public and communities about the new risks in travel connected to our changing planet, now this section of MG is one of the primary visitor information tools in British Columbia, and we continue to improve on it.

Two years ago we reported in a three part feature that global energy corporations and multinational food brokers like Monsanto were teaming up to turn the global food supply into an energy supply. Boy, were we right about that one. Our regional scope predicted that food security issues would become front and centre in Okanagan public awareness.

A year ago we assembled research that exposed the provinces New Energy Plan as simply a way to gloss over the fact that our electrical infrastructure is toast and that major investment is required in order to create the transmission infrastructure needed to maintain the existing grid and serve the needs of new private energy producers. Now the issue has become mainstream.

This year we reported that the new president of the Bank of Canada would either draw a line in the sand and be on the side of ordinary Canadians or he would serve the wishes of the big banks. We were nervous reporters, and we were right to be so. Recently, when everyone expected the central bank to lower rates, they did nothing, which sent a signal to the chartered banks to raise their interest rates. Yes, we predicted weirdness.

Also this year, we explained the new economic bubble that will replace the Housing Bubble that burst this year. The new Alternative Energy Bubble will prime the economy for the next decade, and while some will profit, others will lose. Get ready for a roller coaster ride as The Monster Guide follows the bubble.

The stories are many, and they relate to your future and ours. What can you expect shortly from TMG?

Features about Stephen Harper's chilly opus fighting the next election in the Arctic; the truth about Carbon Offsets; growing homelessness and poverty in the Okanagan and a changing political environment in the valley.

We'll report on solutions, adventure, and with our new Green Living Index show how doing more with less is possible.
